Training your dog to is required, but not difficult. Both you and your dog need to become acquainted with the fence. You become aware of the barriers and so does your dog.

As for how the system works, an audible signal is transmitted through a collar that your dog wears when he or she approaches the fence barrier. This transmission is very harmless and tells your dog that it is not safe to cross. Once your dog experiences this sound several times, they will learn that when they approach certain areas, the collar will sound, keeping your dog within their designated area.

Yes, your dog will have to learn the barriers, but once they do they will know where to stay away from, making the wireless fence a great tool at keeping your dog out of the way of traffic and keeping your dog from getting lost.
